Crews Make Quick Work of House Fire in Modena Borough

On Monday morning June 23, 2014 the Modena Fire Company was dispatched at 0009 hours to a reported dwelling at 37 South Brandywine Avenue in Modena Borough. Dispatched along with Modena was the Westwood Fire Company, Coatesville for the ladder and West Bradford for a tanker.

Ambulance 37-1 was first arriving on scene with Lt Reason aboard reporting a two story middle of the row with nothing showing, Chief Dowlin arrived on and took South Brandywine Command. The lieutenant reported to the chief that he had fire in the wall in floor one on the C side of the structure. Engine 37-2 took the front deploying a hand line and tools inside, later due to no access to the rear deployed a second line around the outside to C side of the structure. Ladder 41 deployed ground ladders before assisting Modena crews. Westwood Assistant Chief Scott took operations as Assistant Chief Bryant took Division 1.

The fire was contained to the rear wall of the structure and the incident went under control at 0039.

Peco was called to the scene to secure the power to the structure which they did once arriving 2 hours after being called. The Red Cross was called to assist the family of seven with shelter and clothing needs.

Chester County Fire Marshals arrived to investigate the incident later leaving the cause as undermined. Belfore restoration came out to board up the rear wall of the structure so the house could be secured.

All units cleared the scene at 0309 hours.
