By EMS Lieutenant Michelle Martin
January 19, 2015

Monday night from 7:00pm-9:00pm Modena hosted a joint EMS training with Westwood Ambulance to review immobilization via scoop, KED, hare traction splint, and immobilization of extremities. This class was instructed by Ethan with Goodfellowship Ambulance for our monthly EMS training.

Class began with members taking turns simulating the equipment and the proper uses. First began with the correct placement of the KED device. Using this device to simulate a neck or back injury to a patient that is not a rapid trauma in a car accident. Next moved into the Scoop Stretcher. This tricky device is used for injuries that may cause an unstable hip injury to were you want to move the patient as least as possible. Next was immobilization with the SAM splint. This device can be used to stabilize for extremity injury's. Another device used for extremity injury's is the padded board splints. Last but not least was a review on the proper use of the hare traction splint used for a fractured femur.

Modena would like thank GFAC for this training, along with all those who could attend.
