By Fire Chief Frank Dowlin
November 19, 2016

On Saturday evening after a beautiful 70-degree day The Modena Fire Company was dispatched to assist station 8 in Highland township to fight a 20 plus acre brush fire in high winds and snow.

Station 8 was dispatched to a tree fire and as they responded it became quickly apparent that the high winds were not on their side. units could see from a distance that the wind was driving the fire across the hill side and was pushing quickly toward open field and one residents.

Additional resources were dispatched both from Chester and Lancaster counties, after some time the fire was brought under control with allot of area to go back over and extinguish hot spot.

All the crews on scene did a excellent job controlling the fire and keeping it from getting into any nearby homes, at the end the fire was estimated to have consumed around 20 acres of wildland.

Engine 37-1 was initially dispatched to relocate to Cochranville Fire Company be was diverted in route to the fire scene where it’s crew joined the suppression efforts.

Later in the incident Rehab 37 was dispatched to assist with rehab efforts, this incident was the first call for the unit since taking delivery of it from the county in October. Rehab 46 was also dispatched and responded and ambulance to support rehab effort.

Units: Engine 37-1, Squad 37, Rehab 37

Mutual Aid: Station 8, and many more from Chester and Lancaster
