The extremely dry conditions has had Chester County emergency services hopping this week.

Here at Modena the week turned out to be a record-breaking week in the company history running 29 Fire calls and 34 EMS calls topped off by a very busy 12 fire call and 5 EMS call Saturday.

This past week, the fire division has been a go to for the county for standbys handling 9 standbys alone this week on top of our other emergencies within our area, Modena generally handles a good amount of standbys not only covering in emergency situations, but also covering our neighbors during special events, this is a sediment to our crews willing to do what generally turn out to be extended period of time type incidents.

In the past, the most calls ran by the fire division was 371 and the EMS division of 1066. Both of those records were made this week and will be blown out of the water this year. The fire divisions on pace to do approximately 425 with the EMS division being on pace to reach around 1200.

These numbers are "Mind Blowing" says President Dowlin recalling when he started in 1990 saying they got existed to run 100 fire calls a year and EMS was only doing around 300 EMS calls.

These historic numbers are result of what we’ve been seeing and saying for years with the increase of residence in the county and in our area in particularly, and of course, these extreme dry conditions this past month played a role in it this week.

We believe these number will just increase for years to come autumnally taxing our volunteers and forcing us to add more paid staffing down the road. So when you see those tax increases or the fire company asking for additional funding, these are the reasons why. As always thank you to all of our municipalities and residents for their continued support.
