By Deputy Chief Christopher Corle Jr.
May 6, 2023

At approximately 4:28 pm this afternoon, Modena Fire Company, in conjunction with Coatesville Fire and EMS from Westwood, responded to an urgent call for an industrial rescue in the 100 block of Modena Road.

Upon arrival, crews were briefed on the situation: a worker had been struck on the head by falling ice and was positioned approximately 40 feet above ground level on a platform. Assistant 37, Bryant, assumed command of the Modena Road operation. Due to the challenging location and severity of the injuries, the Chester County Rescue Task Force was also dispatched to provide additional expertise and support.

Working swiftly, the teams devised a comprehensive plan to safely package the injured individual and facilitate a controlled descent to the ground. This intricate process required meticulous coordination and perseverance. Finally, at just after 6 pm, the subject was successfully lowered and brought to safety.

The extraordinary collaboration of multiple agencies involved in the rescue is commendable. Their collective efforts, dedication, and seamless teamwork played a vital role in ensuring the successful resolution of this challenging situation. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the injured individual and their loved ones during their recovery process.
