Passing of Long Time Member Janice J. Solen

It is with deepest regret that the Modena Fire Company announces the passing of long time member Janice J. Solen on January 31st 2024.

Janice was a long time resident of East Fallowfield and served the company in the Late 80's and early 90's. During her time with the company she could be seen working closely with the ladies auxiliary helping out with fund raisers, she made a killer sweet potato pie.

Janice her husband Bill Sr. and son Bill Jr. were also very active in the company during these times , making the Solen's one of the many family names in the company's history .

The officers and members send our deepest condolences to the family, and would like you to know you're in our hearts and prayers.

Obituary for Janice J. Solen

Janice J. Solen, known to many as "Sissy",85, of Coatesville, PA, departed this life suddenly on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at her residence.

Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence William Johnson and Jeanette Jackson Johnson. She was the wife of the late William G. Solen Sr., with whom she shared many years of marriage until he passed away in 2012.

She attended the Coatesville Area public schools, including the historic James Adams Elementary School and graduated from S. Horace Scott Senior High School in 1956. While raising a family, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years.

Janice was an animal lover. She was a good friend, an amazing cook, and a beloved mother and grandmother. Janice was a member of Hutchinson Memorial UAME Church in Coatesville.

She enjoyed crocheting and driving in the snow. Those who knew her would know Janice was one of a kind. She had strong opinions and meant what she said.

Janice is survived by two daughters Paula Mayo of Coatesville, and Venessa Solen of Media; 5 grandchildren: Danielle Mayo, Amber Miller (Ryan), Ashley McNulty, Aryel McNulty, Alexis Svokos (Bill); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Johnson and Sara Searles; brother-in-law, Carl Johnson; her beloved cat "Squeaker", and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, most notably Ruby Mahoney and Edith Ben.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Bill Solen, Jr. and one brother, Paul L. Johnson.

Homegoing Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Hutchinson Memorial UAME Church, 825 East Chestnut Street, Coatesville, PA. A viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 AM until the service time.

The interment will be held in the Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, PA.

Homegoing Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Hutchinson Memorial UAME Church, 825 East Chestnut Street, Coatesville, PA. A viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 AM until the service time.
