July 1, 2026

A prolonged stretch of very hot and humid conditions will result in dangerous heat across the region during the second half of this week and right into the July 4th holiday weekend. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Chester County, with areas currently not included likely having a heat related watch, advisory, or warning as we approach the holiday weekend.

Hazardous Weather: Extreme heat and high temperatures with heat index values that are forecast to be between 100-110° Wednesday through Saturday.

Locations Affected: Entire region

Timing: High temperatures Wednesday through Saturday around 95-105° for most areas (hottest days look to be Thursday and Friday), then some cooling mainly on Sunday. Overnight low temperatures are only dropping into the mid 70s to low 80s and will offer little to no relief. Some thunderstorms will be possible mostly during the afternoon and evening of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If they occur, they will offer some local relief.

Impacts: Potential for localized power outages. The intensity and length of the extreme heat will exacerbate impacts to both people and infrastructure. There will be little to no relief at night. Air-conditioning is necessary - fans and open windows at night will not be sufficient. At risk populations include senior citizens, young children, and those with heat sensitivity.

Confidence of Occurrence: Confidence remains high for extreme heat conditions, inclement weather may vary as forecasts develop.

Please see attached updated graphics concerning the dangerous heat forecast.
